My mother sent me this silly thing…
Live your life in such a way that when your feet hit the floor in the morning, Satan shudders & says, “Oh, sh**. She’s UP!”
I should have read it before I went to the first day of my summer college class, when I was confronted with how common anti-religious rudeness is and how it takes strength to deal with it in a charitable way. (More on that later.)

This was the first thing I read today (after my sitemeter).
That quote is a riot- and shouldn’t it be the truth for all of us?
I look forward to your post about how acceptable it has become to make rude remarks about religion and religious people- at least I think that is what you meant.
But I’ve learned to ask questions- inside each of those little angry hearts is a crying child. Charity, as you say, is the way to be present for those moments.
Ditto Laura.
My favorite similar quote is from Don Bosco: “First tell the Devil to rest, and then I will too.”
Unfortunately, Laura, it’s not students. It’s my professor.
Kasia, that’s a great quote I hadn’t heard before!
Ooh. Sorry to hear it’s your prof.
I think Laura’s statement is still true, but by the time people become professors their crying hearts are usually pretty hard.
